Very disappointed

As a first time mom I am big on researching every purchase (big and small) and I love shopping on Amazon because of all the customer reviews. I’ve always been happy with all the purchases I’ve made and have always agreed with the reviews on items…..until now. I was extremely disappointed with the Keekaroo Karoo stroller and feel like I owe it to fellow researchaholics to post my review.

First off, let me say that I drove my husband nuts with all the research I did on strollers but I really wanted to find the perfect stroller and get the most for my money. I started researching when I found out I was pregnant but only got serious when my daughter, at 5 months old, began to get too heavy for using her infant seat on the Graco Snugrider (A must have. Dont waste your money on a travel system!) Having used the Snugrider for a few months I was able to get a good idea of what I wanted in a stroller:

A sporty, styliish stroller that dads will love to push!

I can’t say enough great things about this stroller. I did quite a bit of research before deciding to purchase this particular brand and umbrella style. While I didn’t purchase from Amazon.com at the time, Amazon has dropped their price and is now competetive. I depend on the feedback from other parents/users of the product I am researching, so I felt it important for feedback to exist here. This stroller is a dream and turns on a dime. One of the many features I love about it is the fact that the seat sits higher off the ground than most umbrella-type strollers. The manufacturer LISTENS to its customers and modifies and improves the product! I had read on other sites where some complained of ‘kicking’ the back bar on the stroller as they walked. Imagine my surprise to open the box and see a diagram of a ‘before and after’ photo showing the modification that the manufacturer had made, moving the bar further towards the center of the stroller, thus eliminating one’s ‘kicking’ it as they walk behind. I love the ‘view window’ in the visor that allows me to look through the visor at my granddaughter. I love the fact that other parents still use this product with a 5 or 6 y.o. who tires from walking, so I know that this product will be useful for years to come which equates to a better buy for my money. I like the fact that the fabric is plain and not covered with polkadots, kites, animals or any other print. Dads prefer the sportier look–even for their little girls! I like the reclining backrest, the adjustable footrest, to mention a few other features. Bottom line: it is a sturdy, dependable stroller in which you will be proud to stroll your child. I will recommend this stroller to everyone I know. It’s that good.

Keekarro Karoo vs. Maclaren Quest Sport

This is a wonderful stroller! We were looking to purchase another umbrella stroller since we wanted to keep one exclusively in the car. I decided on the Karoo, but was hesitant to purchase it initially because no stores where I live carried it. Besides not being able to physically see the stroller, my biggest hesitation was how this stroller would measure up against our other stroller, the Maclaren Quest Sport. I depended heavily on reviewers to guide me through this purchase, so hopefully, some of my observations will help make your decision easier.

There are some similarities (both are nicely styled, same folding/locking mechanism, lightweight, multiple recline positions, velcroed back storage pocket, cushioned foam handles, etc), but here are a few differences that I have noticed about the two:

Maclaren Quest Sport:
1) Much higher price tag
2) Very limited canopy/sun shade (I purchased a Kiddopotamus Ray Shade to help cover my baby better)
3) Shorter overall height (My husband is 6’3″ and sort of slouches a bit when he pushes this stroller. Also, if I pull the stroller up to a table, my daughter is no where near table height).
4) Wheels are made of nicer rubber material, but I have noticed that after ~1 year of use (multiple times a day for walks around the neighborhood/to park) that the wheels sometimes squeak a bit
5) Small basket underneath, difficult to reach
6) Joined back brake system (1 pedal controls both back wheels)
7) Sturdier buckle/harness system, no harness pad covers
Peak-a-boo window is on the back of the canopy and is not easy to see through, especially when your child is seated fully upright. I often have to push the canopy forward a little bit to peak through at my daughter. This may not be a problem though if she was reclined.
9) Includes rain cover and has shoulder carrying strap in addition to carrying handle on the side

Keekaroo Karoo
1) Higher overall height (My husband says that this stroller lets him walk normally/more naturally. I am 5’4″ and have found it to be a little too high for me – feels like I’m reaching a little up. I also will occasionally kick the back wheels on the Karoo, which has never happened on the Quest).
2) Cheaper plastic wheels (although no squeaking)
3) Individual brakes on each of the back wheels
4) Great peek-a-boo window on the top of the canopy
5) Decent canopy with extendable front visor (still doesn’t completely cover my daughter on sunny days, but better than Quest without Ray Shade). The canopy also has spring loaded snap hinges that feel much sturdier than the flimsy ones on the Maclaren.
6) About half the price of the Quest Sport
7) Very padded and cushioned seat (feels very plush)
Cheap buckle/harness system (just a regular clip where you pinch both side together to release, but does come with matching harness pads)
9) Although both drive/maneuver smoothly, the Karoo does feel a little heftier/substantial. Does not tip over with a medium sized diaper bag on back.
10) Bigger basket underneath which is easier to access due to the higher overall height.
11) The silver sides/metal seems to scratch easily (I hung some clothes on the handles while shopping and it left little scratches)
12) Does not come with any accessories and only has carrying handle on the side

Overall, both strollers are great, but for the money, you can’t beat the Karoo!

worthless

We got this and it looked exactly like what we wanted but when we went to use it both of the zippers split open not just one. And therfore would not work. The front zipper arrived split. We only put a bottle of pedia sure and a pudding cup in the center pocket; far from over loaded. I would not reccomend this to anybody. I guess the price is what you get…crap. It would be nice to get my money back. I would give it zero stars if I could.

Great for the summer/fall/spring!

We live in chicago so the temperature goes from super hot to super cold and the regular bug canopy is pretty hot for the summer. This has been fantastic for the summer and I’m sure it will continue to work great in the fall and spring. It’s super cute and my son likes to lean back and look out through the sides. I highly recommend this.

Once again, we found a reason to drop more money into this pram.
The Canopy is fine the issue is that the plastic hardware is not strong enough to keep it tight. While this seem like a cosmetic issue this affects the use of the additional sunshade.

I thought this canopy was something really special, but when I got it in the mail it is exactly like the canopy that comes with the Cameleon to start with. I think I was stupid to buy this as the “breezy” holes are nothing special and I doubt if it will make things any cooler.

I bought this footmuff because the urban bundle me we had didn’t fit the uppababy vista very well. Meets All Our Needs + Stylish and Very User-Friendly

My husband & I had the hardest time picking a stroller/car seat combo. This was our first baby, so we had no idea what qualities would be important to us. Safety is obvious, and price was of course a factor, but what else? Lightweight? Easy to set up & take down? Comfort for us & baby? Which mattered more & which “cons” should we give the most credence to? We went to many stores & tried out every model, then we’d come home and read the Amazon reviews, and the ones we liked would have negative comments that would make us doubt our decision, so we’d start the search all over again. It seemed like no one liked their stroller/car seat.

I’m sure some of you out there are having the same trouble, so for those of you hung up like I was on the negative comments, I would like to give you a different perspective on some of the other reviews. Just because there is a “con” doesn’t mean it’s a dealbreaker – these things are livable! There is no perfect item out there – the Chicco is as close to perfect as we felt we could get – we love it, and we’d buy it again.

THE BIG PICTURE:

1. This is a GREAT stroller for the price range. It is not the cheapest, but not nearly the most expensive. We bought a Graco first and didn’t like it – the carseat on this locks so much easier into the base and the stroller, and it also feels much sturdier, smoother, and better put together than the Graco.
2. It rides great – inside & outside. It steers easily, it’s smooth, and the handle feels comfy.
3. It is easy to clean, and the fabric choices are stylish.
4. The stroller is very simple to unfold & fold, and the carseat could not be any easier to lock in place.
5. It is comfortable for the baby. She falls asleep & stays asleep in it often.

NOW, TO ADDRESS SOME SUPPOSED DRAWBACKS:

1. Yes, the fabric is warm, (some of the styles of Chicco even seem hotter than others, go see them in person first), but so are pretty much all carseat fabrics (and swing and high chair fabrics). It makes them easy to clean). We bought the “Cubes” and are happy with that fabric and pattern. It is summer in Texas and the baby sweats a bit on her back. It doesn’t seem to bother her at all.

2. We have not had any trouble with the straps being too tight or too loose, brakes not working, or wheels squeaking. Our baby has been in the 75-90th percentile for height & weight since 2 months, and no trouble fitting. And I can’t imagine how anyone could have trouble locking in the carseat unless it was broken. We literally tried every model at Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby, and this was the easiest one to lock in.

3. Yes, it is heavier than some models. The seat feels heavier than the stroller. I consider myself a full-fledged wimp, and I could handle either. I use a carrier of some type instead of toting the seat by itself when possible. Not a big deal.

4. When using the seat with the stroller, unless you have a very narrow diaper bag, it will be hard to get it under the seat, and you won’t be able to fit some shopping items under there. Again, not a big deal – use a mommy hook or carry the bag on your shoulder. You don’t need tons of heavy stuff in your bag when the babies are that young. We always used a hand basket for shopping – it is easy enough to maneuver the stroller with one hand, and we never felt comfortable putting shopping items under the stroller. It felt like people were always watching us thinking we were shoplifting. (Sometimes they specifically checked for that).

5. The adult beverage holder is too shallow. If you hit a bump, your drink will probably spill. However, if you are at the mall, etc., not many bumps there, and if you are outside, you can attach a water bottle to a mommy hook.

Disclaimer: We have owned this for 5 months now, it is holding up perfectly so far. We live in the suburbs, so we use this for shopping, but we also take it on a pretty rough sidewalk about 1/2 to 1 mile every day. We also have large vehicles, so no trouble fitting the stroller. Another caveat, either one of us does the grocery shopping while the other keeps the baby, or we both go & one pushes the cart and the other pushes the stroller, so if you have to do lots of shopping alone & with baby, there may be a better product for you since the carseat does take up most of a shopping buggy & the basket is difficult to access.

Absolutely love this thing

First, since I’m only rating the stroller and not the entire system, I can’t give it 5 stars. The stroller deserves 5 stars though. Our infant was too big for the car seat when we bought it so we haven’t had a chance to use it yet. We bought this system because we wanted the stroller but since it didn’t come without the car seat we just gave in and bought the whole thing and decided to sell our old seat.

Anyway, the stroller is amazing. It had all the amenities we were looking for. We did not want a large stroller or a small umbrella stroller so we were looking for a mid-size. My husband is 6 ft tall and I am 5’5″ so the adjustable handle is perfect for both of us. My son is tall and big and is 9 months old. He is off the charts for height and is in the 95th percentile for weight and he fits in the seat fine. IDK why another parent said his/her child didn’t fit in it. I’d personally love to see that myself.

This is our third purchased stroller, 6th if you count the ones we have borrowed. It rides smoother than the others we have used. It turns easier, rides higher, has more adjustments and amenities than any others. I wish we had bought this instead of the other two strollers we have gone through but hey, live and learn right?

The front wheels are lockable so they do not rotate. Awesome feature. There are many times I rock the stroller back and forth to comfort the baby while eating out or while in a long line at the store. When the wheels rotate on the other strollers while doing this, it frustrates me to no end! I love this locking feature.

The material is the same material as our high chair (Chicco Polly Highchair – Adventure). The material gets spots very easily but they also come out easily. Just throw it in a cold wash without soap, high water level, hang dry and you are set.

Great for a taller parent

After spending a lot of time testing strollers in store, this one was absolutely my choice. My husband and I are both very tall and this is so comfortable to push around relative to height. I was actually delighted by how light the car seat/carrier was, and I thought the fold up was a breeze compared to some of the bulky Gracos we tested. Positioning the seat for forward facing use (without the carrier) was also very easy. The car base is extremely secure and clicks into place so you can tell its in there properly. Frankly when it comes to ease of use I can’t imagine anything else better than the Cortina system. I have read some places that the carrier does not fit in shopping carts. That does not bother me, we use the baby carrier or sling when shopping or just take the stroller in and put items underneath in the storage compartment. As a first time mom I am very impressed with this item and consider it a great value for the price.
